At our cellphone store many customers ask for buy unlocked phones.  We usually sell a number of phones at any given time but unlocked phones are always in demand.  It’s not a problem if the phone is locked to a specific carrier but it limits the potential customer base.  The benefit of unlocked phones is the phone can be used for any carrier and anywhere in the world.

At Phonecrib in Boca Raton, FL we see many customers from different parts of the world.  Most of the customers from S. America and the Caribbean are interested in unlocked phones for family.  We see a lot of customers looking to buy for relatives in countries that can’t find good reliable devices.  We make it a priority to keep as many unlocked phones on hand as we can to meet this need.

Learn About How Unlocked Cell Phones Works

The easiest way to purchase an unlocked phone is to buy it from a reliable source.  Many phones on the market are locked to a specific carrier, like sprint which you can’t unlock.  The major GSM carriers in the US, which is T-Mobile & AT&T can be unlocked for a cost.  If you can find a device from Verizon than you’re golden because all of these are unlocked phones.  The best way to make sure the phone is unlocked is to try a sim card from a different carrier.  If you can make a call using the different sim card that means the phone is unlocked.

Another factor to consider if you buy a phone is to make sure it’s paid off.  If you plan on using the device in the US and the original owner never paid it off than it will become blacklisted.  This is a different scenario when looking for unlocked phones as many unscrupulous sellers will never tell you it’s not paid off.  It takes about ninety days for the carrier to blacklist the phone since the last payment received.
