Trying to keep up with all the new iPhone is proving to be very difficult.  All new iPhone models including iPhone XR, x, XS ,and XS max are forcing the third-party repair industry re-learn proven repair techniques.

The most unreliable part is the absence of original parts from the manufacturer when repairing. Even as the “Right to Repair” movement is growing.  Apple and every other manufacturer refuses to allow the public the ability to purchase original parts to repair their devices.

China is the leading manufacture of after market replacement parts for almost all electronic devices. It is the only other alternative than using genuine parts. Say what you want about stealing corporate secrets being illegal and immoral. But without it every person who owns an apple device would need to go to a genius bar to have it serviced.   If that were the case would Apple still be this popular?

It’s bad enough when you do have to go to the genius bar, without third-party repair options it would be impossible.  The availability of aftermarket parts has helped Apple devices stay in circulation longer.  So, in theory, the more of your product is the marketplace the more popular it becomes.

As the aftermarket replacement parts become more stable, getting the device repaired outside the genius bar is possible. Usually taking about six months the aftermarket parts become affordable and compete with Apples repair rates.  It will take about one year for most of the defects that many aftermarket parts possess to get addressed and corrected.

It doesn’t help when Apple includes something in an iOS update that causes aftermarket parts to dis-function.  If you’ve owned an iPhone since the four series and had it repaired by a third-party you know what this means.

The new design of the iPhone xr series has caused a re-education of the repair industry.  The absence of the home button, and the new facial recognition,  and a redesigned logic board are all features that are different than before.

As third-party technicians learn how to make these repairs many are learning that Apple is trying harder than ever to make the repair more difficult.  Many are turning to reliable companies that do tear downs and explain how each device is built and what are easy mistakes to make.  As these devices become more and more expensive you must have knowledge of the device before you attempt the repair.
